The Board of Peace and the Business of War

The “Board of Peace” isn’t about rebuilding a society, it’s about rewriting the rules of global power.

In this episode, we look at Donald Trump’s so-called Board of Peace and what it means for Gaza, Palestine, Israel and the future of international law. Framed as a reconstruction and peacekeeping initiative after the devastation of Gaza since October 2023, the Board of Peace is being presented as a humanitarian response to war. But beneath the language of rebuilding and stability lies a far more troubling agenda: privatised reconstruction, geopolitical power plays, and the reshaping of Gaza without meaningful Palestinian representation or accountability for the destruction that preceded it.

We explore how post-war politics often becomes a space where rules appear suspended, drawing comparisons with the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the weapons of mass destruction deception, and the long shadow cast by figures such as Tony Blair. With Blair now linked to this new governance structure and Trump positioned at its helm beyond his presidential term, the Board of Peace raises serious questions about corruption, conflicts of interest, and the outsourcing of international governance to political insiders and private interests.

Why have only a fraction of invited countries joined the Board of Peace, way are trade threats and tariff pressure being used against countries refusing to participate? We assess what this means for Australia’s foreign policy, the broader debate over recognition of Palestine, and the weakening authority of the United Nations in a world increasingly shaped by unilateral power.

Is this really a pathway to peace in Gaza, or does it represent a new model of conflict management where destruction is followed by commercially driven reconstruction without justice or self-determination? What happens to international law when accountability disappears? And are we witnessing the normalisation of a new era of endless war, real estate geopolitics, and transactional diplomacy?
