It’s a foolish opposition leader who habitually opposes, simply because that’s what opposition leaders are supposed to do. It’s an even more foolish leader, whose party has lost its way, to oppose formal recognition of Palestinian statehood, when 45 per cent of Australians now support the move, twice as many as who oppose it.

A suggestion for Sussan Ley:

How about some humanitarian bipartisanship for a refreshing change? That could lift the standing of your marginalised Liberal Party.

Recognition is a distraction, deflection, and deferment. Just like every other “peace process”. Distraction from genocide, deflection of criticism and potential sanctions and diplomatic isolation, deferment of ICJ demand that Israel withdraw from all occupied territory. Bah humbug.

The Liberals appear to have learned nothing from the voters rejection of Dutton's shallow ranting.

Australians are practical people and we want our politicians to take practical steps to solve problems.

We don't accept the politicised MAGA nonsense, as the polls show, yet the Liberals are still stuck in the past, instead of looking to the future.

Albanese is methodical, thorough and practical and most voters like this, even if some think he should move faster at times.

Netanyahu and his ultra-extremist backers have made Israel into a pariah state. It is Israel, not Hamas, which is now the main obstacle to peace in the Middle East. Every time an Israeli kills a Palestinian, it causes more people to hate Israel.

If Israel blocks the moves for peace, then the only option will be for the West to apply severe sanctions on Israel. Netanyahu and Putin are both war criminals who are invading their neighbours and they must both be forced to withdraw or be punished.

This is a big test for Trump. Either Trump forces both Putin and Netanyahu to choose peace, not war, or Trump himself will be condemned by the whole world.
