That number is based of figures released by the Department of Human Services in 2019, and was widely reported by the media at the time. Here’s one sample: https://www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/2019/03/02/robo-debts-potential-toll/15514452007563. Also this information: https://www.abc.net.au/triplej/programs/hack/2030-people-have-died-after-receiving-centrelink-robodebt-notice/10821272 - Albanese also made reference to that number. There is dispute about the figure, but targeting vunerable people with multiple health issues wouldn't have helped.

Thanx, New Politics. I abhor Robodebt and the damage it did to vulnerable Australians. However, I think the waters are murky here with the evidence slated. Are these numbers correlation or causation? I suppose we'll never know, given the deficit of causes of death data. 🫤

I am gobsmacked, that ridiculous English word that somehow manages to capture a feeling of total and utter bewilderment at a situation that defies any reasonable understanding whatsoever, by the Senators response to what is going on in Gaza. The failure to call out abject brutality by Israel (that others have described as genocide and ethnic cleansing and war crimes), even when Australian citizens are victims, is itself I think a war crime. This Zionist regime in Israel must be condemned by Australia. It is an ugly and brutal regime and she is facilitating it.

The NACC(ery) has been working perfectly, exactly as it was designed to do.

The NACC was ever so carefully designed to protect the usual suspects and/or wrongdoers . We have seen this with absolute clarity after the Robodebt scandal . The appearance is that “let’s make sure that it’s the common hordes who suffer, and perpetrators will walk free “. Bold as brass and never challenged by the Prime Minister. Unforgivable .

You are correct - we will never know and the DHS analysis didn’t really provide a background to those numbers.

That Albanese , Wong and Marles continue to grovel to every edict from America and Israel is a betrayal of this nation , democracy , and especially our sovereignty . That Wong dares to say “it’s hard to judge from this far away “ about a genocide that is continuing , and recorded daily , is an insult to all Australians , not to mention the people of Palestine . The refusal of the Prime Minister to condemn the genocide , and to grovel to every order of his carefully chosen ( UNELECTED ) Zionist “antisemitism envoy” is also unforgivable . Rather than working to heal divisions in our communities , his determination , via these policy decisions , appears to be to increase social division . His definition of “hate speech “ and who is allowed to indulge in it without any consequence, is another disgrace .

Gentlemen, I just did a fact-check on the number of deaths directly attributable to Robodebt, and it appears that there were only three, not over 2,000. Now, in no way do I support Robodebt. However, I'm concerned that you may have the wrong figure there. What were your sources for the 2,000+ deaths? 🤔
