It’s a line from the Kenyan writer Ngugi wa Thiongo, arguing that before a country can be decolonised, the mind has to be decolonised first. Also now used by Traore in Burkina.
Correct in every detail . That this government is more than happy to cut social services and the Public Interest , well nigh across the board , in order to hurl unlimited billions of dollars to America’s War Machine is indescribably despicable .
It is a form of betrayal , both of our democracy and our future . And thus unforgivable . What kind of soulless species
happily cuts funds for disabled children and adults ( NDIS ), and also underfunds Aged Care , support for Mental Health,
Public Education, and Public Health ( especially in rural areas ) ??? How does Albanese even attempt to defend this level of betrayal ?? Naturally he does not attempt it , which says everything about him , and nothing positive .
‘At the Kabuki show in San Diego a day or so ago, there’s three leaders standing there. Only one is paying. Our bloke, Albo.’
In addition to the LNP and Labor colluding for war industries to boost GDP, in many ways they have stolen money from our future health, education and environment.
The Triumvirate of Albanese, Marles and Wong are giddy at the idea of paying tribute to Trump, Hegseth and Rubio. They seem to actually believe their own slick commercials. Indonesia and NZ should be concerned about Australia’s aggressive push for an arms race in the region.
"It’s the language of independence that exists with the reality of dependence."
Indeed. More pointedly, substitute "sovereignty" and "vassalage" and we have it, I think.
Compare the substance with the Roman "allies'" subservience to the Roman Republic; and its client states to the Empire. Australia's Janissary-like loyalty historically has been transferred in desperation; but never reciprocated, or its intelligence warnings heeded.
As to AUKUS, I'm reminded of the 1962 JFK-McMillan deal and its relentless, grinding aftermath. As the late great US historian Kenneth Waltz, observed with derision in his very first book just five years later: "the desire to put the 'great' back into Great Britain turned England [sic] into a nuclear satellite of the United States" (Kenneth Waltz, Foreign Policy and Democratic Politics: The American and British Experience, 1967, p152)
A brilliant assessment of the madness that the Albanese government has taken on at the behest of an insane US administration! We must remember that Federal Government spending is always a political decision, not a financial one. The very fact that the unclear submarine delivery has no financial constraints demonstrates my point precisely. 🫤

Especially loved your line:
"America has colonised our minds, and it’s gone on for such a long time, that we don’t even realise it, let alone how to decolonise ourselves."@
Spot on. Keep saying this until our cowardly political class takes the hint and puts Australians first.
Thanks Eddy and David.
