An excellent assessment of this timid , spineless budget. Albanese appears determined to continue with the John Howard
agenda , and “no discussion will be entered into !” . Do as little as possible for those you were elected to serve , while bowing and scraping to corporate donors and mining overlords . The very notion of a Labor Government has been tossed aside when endless billions of taxpayer funds are happily given away for ( unregulated ) “Defence” and the catastrophic
insult to Australians of the AUKUS scam . Apparently giving away billions of dollars to the American war mongering regime
Is far more important to Albanese than the basic human right of homeless Australians to have a roof over their heads .
What a monumental betrayal by Mr “I grew up in Public housing “. Unforgivable.
Have to say I agree completely with your views on the budget.
The defence spending makes my blood boil, particularly when the NDIS is being slashed.
I'm wondering if the CGT & negative gearing changes are a bit of a distraction. It has been bleedingly obvious that the Howard changes caused a distortion, so it was about time. But they don't go far enough. Just enough to silence the baying crowd but for how long?
Trusts: about time, but why delay commencement. Gives all the rich bustards plenty of time to rearrange their affairs. Then the tax system will play catch up.
Tax the gas! I wonder what Faustian deal the government has done with the US that may constrain some policies? 🤔
Business always gets a free pass from tax increases: to quote Chicken Little "the sky is falling!".
I agree with the criticisms. It’s a budget confident the Opposition is not electable.
We need a National infrastructure program , not AUKUS. We need investment in the people of Australia - TAFE, public education, public transport, public housing, education and support services for so many.
Too often infrastructure is shoved aside because road and rail are in separate state ministries. Politicians and public servants who don’t use public transport rely on digital mapping with no knowledge of the social and physical environment, people and transport needs of districts and no understanding of physical terrain.
In NSW, the major east-west highway, the Great Western Highway, is unusable. The Victoria Pass is closed for twelve months, ie for the foreseeable future. The damage to the western regions is considerable. Business , education, access to health services, the supply of agricultural produce into Sydney and the delivery of imports necessary for everything all suffer from political inertia.
Meanwhile the Federal budget is no longer funding the north-south- north railway route, ending the line at Parkes. The Coalition that wants the regions to have access to rail for freight, failed to plan the entire project. No one could work out where it would terminate in or near Brisbane. Enough said.
Dr Ken Henry AC, the former Treasury secretary and chair of the Australian Climate and Biodiversity Foundation, posted on Facebook an interesting point of view related to climate and species protection. (jim_chalmers_budget_doesnt_fix_everything_but_its/ — The Guardian).
Dr Henry calls for the maps to be updated, improved, flat maps that are charted by expert cartographers, detailed high-quality geophysical maps for the development of infrastructure and the protection of the environment — bridges and tunnels that protect important on-ground social and physical environments.
Our research teams who provide data to politicians need to know our nation and its people better.

Once again, David and Eddy, you've nailed it! 🥰
I want to take the tax topic further, much further. I've written a short paper, A High-Wellbeing Australia: A Five-Year Democratic Economic Transition Plan (2029–2033): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_I7QU_O8QvbHDAP1KFe6tu8TuDOCL2QC/view?usp=sharing.
It's a framework for economic security, public provisioning and shared prosperity. If only I were the PM .......... 🥴
