I remember reading books and watching documentaries 40-ish years ago about Nazi and Soviet propaganda: posters and films shown before movies etc. Who didn't read Orwell, Bradbury et al at school, teaching us about the control of information? All the old sci-fi shows where surroundings are depersonalised, everyone is dressed the same, looks the same, has a common enemy.
Today the propaganda comes from all angles - politicians, establishment media, algorithms on social media, AI, marketing, TV, film, podcasts, bestseller book lists.
People like Chris Hedges, Kneecap, Palestine Action protesters, Dr Mo - these are voices we need to amplify, share them with everyone you meet. I've reached the point where I don't care if people get sick of me talking about Palestine and genocide and authoritarianism and climate crisis - that's all I can think about.
Any ideas about what we can do about it? I ask seriously as I have none. Journalists to standfast? Big money backers of the true view? Ban all the stupid streaming remakes of reall life intrigue which brainwasheds and normalises the bad behaviours. Stronger growth in independent media?

Thanks. I read New Politics from the US and I would have had no idea of the Hedges story by reading old Journalism. I think the fact we can find out about things like this, in this way, without relying on conventional gatekeepers is a good thing, and I appreciate your eye on things down there.

Democracy is supposed to be that we, the people, lead during election, then stand back and watch them fulfil their mandate. But the Noalition and Labor governments both operate from a right wing positions within economic rationalism (center right for Labor, far right for Liberals), and are morally bankrupt cowards on large issues. Lab/Lib governments have mandates to stop obeying their fossil fuel and gambling campaign sponsors, to treat Palestine with human rights and powerful laws like the Genocide Convention and Arms Trade Treaty. But these coward parties fail to use their mandates, preferring to be corrupted by their campaign sponsors (and Zionist hasbarists), and to fail their voters and their legal & moral obligations. So we the voters are left with the hard position of having to constantly campaign to wrestle our truculent, corrupted politicians (and their corrupted, complicit mass media allies) every step of the bloody way towards prioritizing human rights & international laws over egregiously illegal & immoral Israel arms deals and Zionist McCarthyism. Correct in every detail . The alternative is to slide irrevocably into a Dark Age of Fascist authoritarianism in which free speech and basic human rights are but distant memories. This government , and what passes for the “Opposition “ ( TWO right wing parties , now that the Labor Party has apparently ceased to support the Public Interest ) are abandoning Leadership and the sovereignty of our nation in their spineless complicity to the dictates of foreign nations and corporate entities.
