Banning trade with the illegal settlements might be tokenistic, but every opportunity to denormalise Israel and punish its actions needs to be taken. The argument that sanctions wouldn’t make a difference were used on the apartheid regime in South Africa – but they did, even it took 20 years. It would be better for the world to take stronger action, but it can start with the settlements, and then against all of Israel. Who knows how long it will take, but it has to start somewhere.
I agree. No wonder that the PM is losing support in the polls. He doesn't have the courage to do anything meaningful re Israel or the migration issue. The landslide in the election has been wasted by both a lack of courage and bowing to so many lobby groups.
I actually hope we don’t get a seat at the Security Council for two years, the spineless labour party would waste it. They should give it to someone that has the moral courage to use it for good not just political convenience.

Earlier today I happened to listen to some parts of AA's announcement of the Australian bid for the UN Security Council seat. He said the usual things about Australia punching above its weight and having a say in world affairs, etc. The statement would have been a normal perhaps meaningful statement (as much as these can be) a year ago.
But times have changed and the Australian Labor government is now clearly owned by the Zionists.
I noted two things in the parts of the announcement I listened to. One was an emphasized focus on doing the right things by our Pacific neighbours - nary a mention of the USA or China. Two, noticeable by omission, was no mention of the Israeli genocide in Gaza and what Australia could do on the security council to stop it - or any other ongoing genocide for that matter.
That’s the thing with managerialists like Albanese and Wong…they’re going to apply managerialism to everything they do. Bed that down beneath a ‘Brahmanised’ Labour Party, hook up their ideological influence to Neoliberalism, and you’ve got a full blown clusterf**k. Welcome to Australia.
It may be seen as a strategy to get a seat on the security council. But if you had any morals why would that matter. You have no veto so in essence you have no power. All the time you are supporting genocide.
Given that Israel is a totally illegal settlement on Palestine.?
