It worked for Abbott, until he actually became PM and his unrestrained and unchecked political stupidity (Knighthood anyone?) became too much even for his own party. My point is, this has been the Conservatives agenda since Howard and Tampa.

The only real way forward for Labour is to articulate it's core values and pursue them without apology. Failing that, watch the Greens and independents surge further ahead. Labour needs a Whitlam/Keating love child right now; vision, courage, charisma and stamina!

Dutton is offering nothing.

Albanese has a long list of real achievements.

The contrast is stark.

The article didn’t even mention Israel/Palestine. Maybe a bot?

The article is not even about Labor, it’s about Peter Dutton.

Most countries support a two-state solution as the only route to lasting peace.

Israel wants a one-state solution - Greater Israel - with Palestinians driven into neighbouring countries or exterminated. The world will never accept that.

Every time an Israeli kills a Palestinian, it causes more people to hate Israelis - it's a self-defeating strategy.

Dutton offers nothing worthwhile, but just seems a clone of Trump.

The media should be hammering Dutton's hollowness - he is the hollow man.

The conservatives/capitalists own what, 85% of the media being produced and watched by most people? The media won't save Albo from himself, though I agree he is street's ahead of Dutton. (And even the media knows that) But unless there is someone with enough conviction, passion and charisma the media have no choice but to follow I fear this period will end with a whimper. The only pathway at the moment is a coalition of greens, independents and labour. Not the worst outcome.

Under Gillard and Brown, the Labor-Greens government was highly successful and passed a record amount of legislation, so it can be done.

I predict Trump will be largely ignored. Israel already ignores Biden. Iran will outsmart Trump. Syrians just want to rebuild and evict foreign forces. Putin is too smart for Trump. Everyone knows Trump is just blowing hot air.

All correct - but during the campaign Dutton and his values will only become apparent if he is interviewed by robust independent journos, and not just by the biased Murdoch press. But where do these courageous hacks reside, and how can they get their copy high in the mainstream media? The responsibility is great.

Mr Dutton has an open invitation to be interviewed on New Politics. He hasn’t taken it up. I doubt he will. DL.

I wondered what happened to her.

Errr, the media's crap, which is the reason Dutton is a viable opposition leader, but never fear, in the crucible of the election campaign the media will be made anew and Dutts revealed?

The media will respond to the times and actually do what it only ever claims to do?

I don’t either. We were burned (quite literally in some cases) by Morrison and I don’t think we’ll go back. And I suppose it will depend on Duttons ability to convince us otherwise. DL
